About thenoirdivision
Luis Rosado of thenoirdivision is a Fine Art Conceptual photographer hailing from Massachusetts. Though born and raised on the tropical island of Puerto Rico, Luis has found a home within the haunting and beautiful landscapes of New England. He is particularly drawn to its thick, tangled forests and crumbling architecture, and inspired by the hushed stillness of hidden groves.
When he was six years old, Luis discovered his first passion- music. He found emotional expression and deep creative release as a singer and self taught multi instrumentalist, and he still plays and sings today. Conversely, much of his photographic work is centered around stillness, silence, the breathless hush in the split second before the music crashes down.
He began studying photography when he was 13 (age) in an attempt to visually explore the intangible nuances and emotions that together, somehow, equal humanity. He strongly feels that a balance of darkness and light is essential to any faithful representation of the human experience, and that to see ourselves from within, we have to embrace our darkness.
Artist Statement:
"When I was about 6 years old I used to walk through the halls of the Museum of Fine Arts in Ponce, Puerto Rico. There was a specific painting that I would always go back to and spend a solid 30 minutes just staring at. It was a neoclassical painting of a girl stretching threads between her fingers, and to this day I cannot remember who the artist was or why I was so enchanted with it. Maybe something about the motionless suspension, or the play of light and dark? Whatever the reason, it was so impactful that I still reference it in my thoughts while I am shooting and editing. My goal as an artist is to evoke the same emotion I felt as a child staring at that painting, and I am most creatively gratified when I feel I have come close."
